Do you use Daily Five in your classroom?  I do!
I have been using this model for three and a half years and would NEVER go back to centers.
My students make amazing progress and Daily Five is so much less work than centers.  I had 13 kiddos below grade level at the beginning of this year and now only four are below ... and it is not even the end of the year.  Three of these students have (or are about to) IEPs.  They all made a years growth but are still behind.
While I know I am an experienced, well educated teacher, I acknowledge the fact that Daily Five has contributed to the success of kids.  Why?  They actually read and write.  They do not spend time doing meaningless activities or worksheets and I focus my lessons very carefully.
Read to Someone was the most difficult for my students {and me}.  They needed some accountability like all of the other Daily's.  So I knew I had to come up with something.

Pg. 7 – Before Reading Die – laminate, cut out and glue with a hot glue gun. Make several for kids to use before they actually start reading
Pg. 8 – After Reading Spinner- oral comprehension prompts
Pg. 9 – Directions on how to make the spinner
Pg. 10- After Reading Spinner- to hold students accountable they can do any of these activities that focus on the comprehension strategies

  7. Like you, I am in LOVE with Daily 5 and will NEVER go back to centers. Daily 5 requires less managing from my part and students are much more independent! I went to the Daily 5 training with the two sisters this past summer and fell in love! I can't wait to incorporate CAFE into my classroom next year since Daily 5 have been so successful!

  10. I do a variation of Daily 5. Centres don't work for me either. And my kids always do really well with reading and writing, also :)) Your accountability sheets are lookin' good!
